Commonly Asked Questions About Injury & Accident Therapy

Soulstice therapists are highly trained, with decades of combined experience in the medical massage therapy field. Our priority at Soulstice is to provide each client with a unique support system of care.  Through skillful bodywork and mindful client education, Soulstice therapists are committed to bringing people back into wellness and health.

There are numerous physiological and psychological benefits to receiving massage therapy, especially while recovering from an accident or trauma.

Physically, massage will improve circulation, helping flush away stagnancy and cleaning out areas that are injured.  This improved blood flow promotes faster healing.  Massage will also alleviate musculoskeletal pain by reducing muscle adhesions, treating trigger points that refer pain through out the body, and improving joint flexibility.

Psychologically, the relaxation promoted by massage calms your nervous system, taking you out of the heightened stress response caused by an accident. When you are injured in any way your brain reacts to that injury as a threat and puts you in a reaction mode. This keeps you in a mindset, and posture, to ‘fight’ anything that threatens to hurt you again.  Lowering your levels of stress and anxiety helps the body and mind reintegrate, allowing you to heal more effectively.

By maintaining open communication with your referring physician, Soulstice therapists are able to develop an individualized treatment plan to address all aspects of your injury.  This ensures positive and productive sessions which speed your recovery.  Additionally, integrating massage therapy into your recovery plan puts another person on your team - an extra set of eyes and hands monitor the progress of your healing.  This expands your network of support, placing you in a more positive mindset.

For your first appointment, we ask that you arrive 10-15 minutes early in order to complete health history paperwork.  You'll have the opportunity to talk with your therapist, giving you the chance to discuss your injury and therapeutic goals.

Your therapist will leave the treatment room allowing you to disrobe to your comfort level and settle yourself on the massage table.  For the duration of your treatment, you will be appropriately covered to ensure modesty.  We encourage open communication with your therapist throughout your treatment.

Following your appointment, your therapist may provide you with self-care suggestions, empowering you to take an active role in your own recovery.

Better!  Most clients come off of the massage table feeling relaxed, like they're ready to head home and take a nap.  Others have a lot of energy and feel like they're ready to conquer the world!  We say that it's a feeling of relaxed alertness.

Over the next day or so, you may experience soreness in the worked muscles, similar to how you would feel after a good workout.  This is normal and demonstrates that a positive therapeutic change is taking place in your body.  If you ever have any questions or concerns following your treatment, give us a call.  Our team is here to provide follow-up education and assistance.
