Physicians
A Partnership to Inspiring Wellness

It is a pleasure to introduce a new and valuable patient service and business opportunity to the plastic surgery and cosmetic dermatology industry. The art of plastic surgery and cosmetic dermatology can be greatly enhanced with the addition of peri-operative massage therapy. Combining a surgeon’s post-operative care with massage therapy will allow patients to heal faster and feel supported throughout their recovery.

Many plastic surgeons and cosmetic dermatologists realize the benefits of massage therapy in regards to post-operative rehabilitation. Our research suggests surgeons would like to refer patients to a skilled massage therapist, however, surgeons find it difficult to locate a provider who is reputable and trustworthy.

Today, specialized peri-operative massage techniques are not being taught in massage schools. Few therapists have gained the necessary knowledge and experience it takes to treat patients peri-operatively. Additionally, most plastic surgeons and cosmetic dermatologists do not have the time to train a trustworthy and qualified therapist to enhance their surgical offering.

Ann Brooks is a massage therapist, massage therapy business educator and expert in health insurance reimbursement.  During Ann’s massage therapy career, she has become specialized in treating plastic surgery reconstruction patients.

Kent and Ann joined forces in 2005 to combine their knowledge and skills.  Currently, Soulstice has a team of 8 massage therapists who have gone through our specialized course, The Fudamentals of Peri-Operative Massage Therapy

Soulstice has had the opportunity to work with hundreds of patients locally and nationally. This experience has enabled Soulstice to further develop a peri-operative massage healing program to include stretching, relaxation and self-massage techniques.

Men and women who have undergone cosmetic facial surgery, body contouring and cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgeries have benefited from peri-operative massage. By observing most of these surgeries, Soulstice massage therapists have been able to comprehensively understand each procedure, whereby developing enhanced peri-operative techniques.

Taking the Lead

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, procedures have increased over the past ten years on an average of 300% to 500%. The top procedures are breast surgeries with breast lift 560%) and breast augmentation (533%) gaining the most popularity. Simultaneously, a large number of surgeons entered the field of plastic surgery thus reducing the ratio of patient to surgeon.

With that in mind, patient care and customer service must compliment the surgical experience for surgeons to remain competitive. Providing peri-operative massage to the surgical package is one such way a surgeon can remain in a market share advantage.
