How We Got Here
In the early 1990’s a prominent Denver cosmetic surgeon began noticing that massage was a great benefit for his patients who had undergone liposuction procedures. It was obvious to this surgeon that massage would help reduce swelling, bruising and numbness associated with this specific procedure. So, this surgeon instructed his patients to massage themselves following their surgery, but quickly found out that patients were either non-compliant or untrained to the proper depth, applicable techniques and massage frequency.
That’s where we came in to play. This surgeon, and one of the founders of Soulstice, Ltd., began assisting patients by applying manual techniques. Collaboratively, these two quickly realized exceptional results and patient satisfaction. They then expanded their treatments to encompass all of the surgeon’s cosmetic surgical procedures, realizing that ALL patients could benefit from these specialized manual techniques.
What Does Massage Do?
Physiological Benefits
From an outsiders perspective it’s not difficult to understand that massage stimulates soft tissue. Massage increases circulation to bring additional blood flow to a desired area. Increased blood flow brings oxygen and nutrients to traumatized areas, bringing in the “good stuff’ and, therefore, flushing out the “bad stuff”.
Here’s where the exciting additional benefits begin to show themselves.
Psychological Benefits
“Knowledge is experience. All the rest is just information.” How a patient will respond and react to any type of surgery is truly unknown until the patient undergoes their procedure. After their surgery, many patients are left on the other to fend for themselves without the support of friends, family or loved ones. The patient’s usual ‘supporters’ either haven’t been told about the modest surgical procedures, or simply unable to support and encourage the patient merely out of industry ignorance.
Soulstice has supported, guided and encouraged hundreds of patients throughout their surgical recovery process. For instance, we understand issues such as post-operative depression and procedure second-guessing.
Consciously, patients desire a quick recovery. Physical bodies, on the flip side, have their own recovery agenda. These two parts usually have very different timetables. Soulstice helps chart out the path of recovery, so that the conscious and the physical aspects can heal in unison.
Physical Benefits
Surgical procedures are traumatic for our bodies. Each and every procedure has its own physical ramifications. Soulstice educates the patient on proper ways to exercise, stretch, and be aware of postural problems associated with their surgical procedures.
